FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT
Position Purpose
The mission of the Buena Vista School District is to ensure every student reaches the peak of success. To that end all departments and individuals strive to fulfill our mission. The Food Service Team works to provide attractive and nutritious meals for students and staff in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and friendliness. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Food Services, the lunchroom staff and substitute staff maintain an orderly and safe atmosphere in the cafeteria by performing duties in accordance with state laws and Board policy and established district procedures.
Substitute staff fill in when the need arises due to the absence of a regular employee, or when extra help may be needed. The Food Service Director will coordinate with substitute staff when there is a need.
Essential Functions:
- Assists in food preparation and serving in a pleasant manner.
- Adheres to laws pertaining to sanitary practices for all food preparation.
- Assumes responsibility for replenishing food supply to meet demands.
- Dishwashing (sweeping, mopping, wiping tables/counter etc..).
- Maintains the trash and garbage collection area in a neat and sanitary fashion.
- Works harmoniously with other food service employees.
- Promotes a positive work environment.
- Assists with food shipment deliveries and inventory.
- Assists students with food purchases, disposal of food waste, and return of trays and utensils.
- Reports to Director of Food Services infractions, safety concerns, injuries, or other issues.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
- Works in standard school kitchen environment with loud noise, humidity and varying temperatures.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Ability to push/pull transport carts.
- Stand for long periods of time
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
7.5 hours per day, Monday-Friday based on academic calendar, 172 days
Pay depending on experience on the Food Service Assistant pay scale, starting at $18.00/hr, note this is the 25-26 pay scale and subject to increase.
