Description

Special Education Teacher

Location: CK Burns (3-5)

Qualifications:

  • Current Maine Department of Education Teacher Certification (282 or 286) or eligible for and current CHRC/fingerprinting
  • Background in special education, knowledge of teaching behavior and specially designed instructional strategies helpful.
  • Use of multi-modality approaches and multiple models to support student's needs effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a team of educational technicians and related service providers. 

Job Summary:

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Stives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulation.
  • Responsible for supervision of educational technicians as it relates to student caseload.
  • Coordinate services across all agency lines and serve as a single point of contact. 

Additional Duties:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Instructional Support and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. 

Travel Requirements:

Travels to school district buildings. 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

Works in standard office and school building environments. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Hourly rate to be established by the Superintendent.

EVALUATION:  As applicable, based on hours worked
