Job description:
The Adapted Physical Education (APE) Assistant is responsible for providing adaptive physical education programs to children who meet state and federal regulations mandated for children with disabilities, under the supervision of a licensed APE teacher.
Description of Responsibilities:
Attend team meetings and IEP meetings as directed by the APE teacher. Provide direct services to students based on IEP goals. Provide direct feedback to the APE teacher regarding student progress pertinent to adapted physical education services. Collect physical education program data to evaluate student progress. Share data with the APE teacher and parents. Consult and collaborate with team members and Para Educators, to schedule services and to modify student’s programs. Maintain a current special education inventory of APE equipment. Assure that essential child data (i.e., assessments, and observations, completed SCRAM records, etc.) is in the student’s primary file and secured in a locked central file cabinet. Assure confidentiality of all students’ information. Participates in family educational opportunities, including but not limited to Parent Empowerment Nights, under the direction of the APE teacher. Conducts student education and outreach opportunities, including assemblies and/or classroom instruction. Adheres to and supports Board policy, School guidelines, and administrative rules and directives. Maintains accurate case records and documentation. Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and abides by said laws and regulations with emphasis on persons with disabilities, child welfare, mental health, confidentiality, and student and parent rights. Participates in in-service activities and staff meetings promoted by the School. Performs other duties as assigned by the Student Services Coordinator or School Principal. Qualifications:
The ability to lift 50 pounds. Minimum 2 years experience with autism preferred. Strong organization skills Ability to work independently Job Type: Full-time
