TITLE: HQ PARAPROFESSIONAL
POSITION TYPE: Non-exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To support the special education and/or general education teachers in creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Assist in classroom management, instructional support, and student supervision, ensuring each child's educational and emotional development is supported throughout the school day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- For Highly Qualified:
- Minimum of 60 semester college credit hours from an accredited college or university
- OR a successful passing score of the ParaPro Assessment exam
REPORTS TO:
Teacher & Administrator
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the special education teacher and/or general education teacher in implementing lesson plans and educational activities aligned with curriculum standards.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction to reinforce learning and support students who need extra help.
- Prepare and organize classroom materials, supplies, and learning stations.
- Help manage student behavior using positive reinforcement and classroom routines.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, recess, lunch, and field trips.
- Assist students with personal care tasks.
- Assist students with breakfast, lunch, and snacks, including clean-up.
- Assist students on and off the school bus.
- Support students' emotional and social development by fostering a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom space.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance, grading worksheets, and maintaining student records.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and occasionally with parents or guardians.
- Participate in professional development, school meetings, and training sessions as required.
- Able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, and kneel throughout the day.
- Able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Involves limited physical tasks, including lifting, and may include operating equipment such as computers, copiers, document cameras, and interactive panels.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 180 days – 10-month contract

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
