**HIRING FOR 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR**

 

Re-1 Valley School District is seeking a dynamic and passionate 6th - 12th grade Band Director to lead and grow our secondary instrumental music program. The ideal candidate will foster musical excellence, leadership, teamwork, and pride while building a comprehensive band program that serves students in middle and high school.

SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY:  $44,000 - $65,853 on Teacher Salary Schedule

 

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

 

WORK CALENDAR:  167 days

 

FTE:  1.0 


Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)
 

Position Summary

To develop and direct a comprehensive 6–12 instrumental music program that promotes musical growth, performance excellence, student leadership, and school/community engagement.

 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Instruction & Program Development

  • Teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced band courses
  • Develop students' skills in tone production, technique, rhythm, sight-reading, and ensemble performance
  • Align curriculum with Colorado Academic Standards
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Integrate music theory, history, and appreciation into instruction

Marching Band & Performances

  • Direct and coordinate marching band rehearsals and performances
  • Plan and conduct concerts, festivals, parades, athletic events, and community performances
  • Prepare students for league and state-level events
  • Coordinate logistics including travel, uniforms, equipment, and scheduling

Leadership & Student Development

  • Foster teamwork, discipline, and pride in performance
  • Develop student leadership structures (section leaders, drum majors, etc.)
  • Promote positive school culture through music

Program Management

  • Maintain inventory of instruments, uniforms, and equipment
  • Assist in budgeting and purchasing decisions
  • Recruit and retain students in the band program
  • Maintain accurate records and grading

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate regularly with parents, administration, and staff
  • Collaborate with music and arts colleagues
  • Participate in professional development

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain current licensure
  • Participate in professional development
  • Support district and building improvement initiatives

Working Conditions

  • Classroom, rehearsal, performance, and outdoor marching settings
  • Evening and weekend performances required
  • Travel for competitions and festivals

     


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or related field preferred and will be given first consideration
  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement or have licensure application in process (Additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)
  • Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
  • Demonstrated experience in instrumental instruction
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Experience directing marching band preferred
  • Bilingual Skills preferred

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Colorado Teacher Evaluation System.

Caliche Elementary and Caliche Jr/Sr High School, located outside Iliff, CO, are a part of RE-1 Valley School District.  The District Administration Center is located in Sterling, CO (Logan County) in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir.
