About the Early Childhood Program

 

Our Early Childhood Program provides high-quality, developmentally appropriate education for preschool-age children through nurturing, engaging, and culturally responsive learning experiences. We are seeking a passionate, collaborative, and equity-driven School Psychologist with expertise in early childhood development to support our youngest learners and their families.

 


 

Position Summary

 

The Early Childhood School Psychologist plays a vital role in supporting the academic, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral development of preschool students. This professional partners closely with educators, therapists, administrators, and families to ensure early identification of needs, effective intervention, and inclusive programming that promotes lifelong learning and well-being.

 


 

Essential Responsibilities

 

1. Assessment & Early Identification

  • Conduct comprehensive, developmentally appropriate psychological evaluations for preschool-age children.
  • Interpret assessment data and clearly communicate results to families and staff.
  • Contribute to eligibility determinations and the development of IEPs and Section 504 plans.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of early childhood developmental milestones, disabilities, and evidence-based practices.

 

2. Intervention, MTSS, & Problem Solving

  • Actively participate in and/or facilitate MTSS and Problem-Solving Team meetings.
  • Design, implement, and monitor early interventions that support learning, behavior, and social-emotional growth.
  • Collaborate with staff to create nurturing, inclusive, and trauma-responsive classroom environments.
  • Support universal screening and use of data to inform instruction and intervention.

 

3. Consultation & Collaboration

  • Partner with teachers, related service providers, and administrators to address student needs.
  • Provide guidance to families regarding child development, behavior, and available supports.
  • Compile, analyze, and share student and program-level data to guide continuous improvement.

 

4. Professional Practice & School Community

  • Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive psychological reports.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning focused on early childhood mental health and school psychology best practices.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, cultural responsiveness, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Serve as a member of the building Threat Assessment Team.

     


 

Qualifications

 

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with School Psychologist endorsement.
  • Expertise or strong interest in early childhood development and preschool special education.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and family-engagement skills.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive practices.
  • Sound professional judgment regarding student safety and well-being.
  • Ability to effectively integrate technology into assessment, collaboration, and data analysis.
