Primary Purpose:
Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional programming, and campus level operations, management, and oversight. Coordinate, manage, and monitor assigned student activities and services. Serve in the place of the campus principal during their absence.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree from accredited university
Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate, effective no later than posted duty day start date for the position
Certified Texas Teacher Support and Evaluation System (T-TESS) appraiser
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough knowledge of campus operations
Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to interpret and implement policy, procedures, and data
Ability to interpret data
Strong Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years experience as a classroom teacher
Two years as a campus administrator
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, assist teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed.
- Reinforce expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and classroom management.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure the classroom and campus activities align with and support the desired outcomes.
School/Organizational Improvement and Climate
- Promote a positive, caring, and supportive climate for learning.
- Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school's mission.
- Establish interactive two-way communication with the principal, staff, students, parents, and community.
- Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
- Assist principal to develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
Identify, analyze, and apply research findings to promote school improvement including but not limited to professional development, leadership capacity, and professional growth..
Student Management
- May act as campus behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
- Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Conduct conferences about students and/or school concerns with parents, students, and teachers.
Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Supervise Oversee campus operations in principal's absence.
- Help plan daily campus activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issues.
- Work with instructional coaches, department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
- Requisition of supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials in accordance with district procedures.
- Coordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs.
- Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities as requested.
Personnel Management
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser as needed.
- Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
School/Community Relations
- Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal. Supervise and evaluate teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned by the campus principal.
