Administrator of Special Education 5-8

General Summary:  Coordinates special education compliance; assists in the design, development and delivery of special education programs and services appropriate for students with disabilities in grades 5-8.  The Special Education Administrator assists with staffing, budgeting, data collection and reporting, staff development, and program implementation and evaluation for identified special education programs.
 
Responsibilities:
 

  1. Conducts review of assigned special education documents so as to ensure compliance with district procedures, state, and federal laws: identifies areas of need and works with Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services to develop and implement programs to address those needs.
  2. Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services with the identification and selection of scientific, research-based instructional strategies and interventions for students with disabilities to enable them to progress in the general education curriculum and meet district and state standards.
  3. Coordinates and supervises identified programs for students with disabilities.
  4. Assists in communicating with parents and staff members regarding evaluation, programming, placement, services and rights of students with disabilities.
  5. Chairs building Planning and Placement Team meetings with administration.
  6. Assists with the recruitment, selection, assessment and evaluation of special education teachers and related services staff.
  7. Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services with the pupil services staff professional learning.
  8. Assists in the preparation of federal, state and local reports on special education under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services.
  9. Coordinates the implementation of data collection processes and assists in verifying data accuracy using available technology.
  10. Coordinates the development of and supervises the implementation of the special education transportation and the extended school year program for students with disabilities.

 
Qualifications:

  1. Holds current Connecticut State certification in Administration and Supervision (092).
  2. Successful experience and leadership abilities in the area of special education or related services.
