General Summary: Coordinates special education compliance; assists in the design, development and delivery of special education programs and services appropriate for students with disabilities in grades 5-8. The Special Education Administrator assists with staffing, budgeting, data collection and reporting, staff development, and program implementation and evaluation for identified special education programs.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts review of assigned special education documents so as to ensure compliance with district procedures, state, and federal laws: identifies areas of need and works with Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services to develop and implement programs to address those needs.
- Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services with the identification and selection of scientific, research-based instructional strategies and interventions for students with disabilities to enable them to progress in the general education curriculum and meet district and state standards.
- Coordinates and supervises identified programs for students with disabilities.
- Assists in communicating with parents and staff members regarding evaluation, programming, placement, services and rights of students with disabilities.
- Chairs building Planning and Placement Team meetings with administration.
- Assists with the recruitment, selection, assessment and evaluation of special education teachers and related services staff.
- Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services with the pupil services staff professional learning.
- Assists in the preparation of federal, state and local reports on special education under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services.
- Coordinates the implementation of data collection processes and assists in verifying data accuracy using available technology.
- Coordinates the development of and supervises the implementation of the special education transportation and the extended school year program for students with disabilities.
Qualifications:
- Holds current Connecticut State certification in Administration and Supervision (092).
- Successful experience and leadership abilities in the area of special education or related services.
