JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY
The Assistant Director provides direct support to special education and general education teachers and paraprofessionals to maximize special education students' potential.  Provide knowledge, guidance and support to building level administrators in the area of professional development, programming, and service delivery to increase student achievement.  Make appropriate accommodations, address standards and support the overall learning environment.  Oversee specific programming such as ESY, Center based, Transitions, etc.
 
 
REQUIREMENTS
Education Level Details
Master's Degree in special education with successful completion of an administrator license program required.
License / Certification Required
Colorado Director of Special Education License preferred.
Criminal background check required for hire.
Valid Colorado driver's license.
Work Experience Required
Five years of special education-related experience required. 
Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
Other Skills and Abilities Required
Thorough knowledge of special education programs.
Thorough knowledge of IDEA and ECEA.
Facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
Knowledge of current Adams 14 vision, mission, Unified Improvement Plan, Board Ends.
A belief that all students are capable of learning.

Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to set high standards and achieve them.

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.   
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Serve as a liaison from the Educational Support Services to schools. Collaborate with, coach, and educate special education teams in developing appropriate opportunities for students with disabilities. Provide Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary program support. 
Ensure quality transition programming for students by reviewing and evaluating documents, Individual Education Plans and behavior plans in accordance with district procedures, state rules and federal regulations.
Serve as a liaison to parents of students in special education programs.
Assist in supervision of coaches and other Educational Support Services staff; Assist Director in personnel matters.
Oversee all out of District placements working directly with facilities that support Special Education students.
Conduct evaluations for select Educational Support Services staff; provide input, support and assistance to school administrators on other school based staff evaluations.  
Assist in student counts, program accountability, and data collection and analysis.
Conduct or support manifestation determinations.
Assist in the management of some budget areas including grant oversight and assist with staffing processes related to out of district students with disabilities. 
Work collaboratively with outside agencies. 
Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a usual office or school environment including classrooms, cafeterias, hallways, playgrounds, gyms, athletic fields and other spaces accessible to students.  The Employee may be required to work from a remote location in the event of a district shut-down or other event.
Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and use interpersonal skills. Occasionally required to compile, copy, compute and negotiate.

Compensation for this position is $97,931 to $141,568 per year (2025-2026), based on verified experience and qualifications, and aligned with the Adams 14 salary schedule. This position is scheduled for 226 work days annually. Additional compensation opportunities may be available through stipends or supplemental assignments, depending on job responsibilities.
