Description
PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the program administrator, the Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides individual, direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the least restrictive environment as required by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assists general education teachers in planning differentiated instruction that meets the needs of individual students who are deaf and hard of hearing for the purpose of allowing individual students who are deaf and hard of hearing to access the core curriculum.
• Collaborates with parents, teachers and other specialists for the purpose of planning appropriate educational programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
• Collaborates with the educational audiologist for the purpose of determining the needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing and for the maintenance of equipment.
• Makes recommendations for program placements and services.
• Provides individualized instruction to students who are deaf and hard of hearing based on the current IEP goals for the purpose of allowing access to the core curriculum.
• Provides in-service/training to students and teachers of individual and classroom amplification systems used by students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
• Supports students’ development of personal and social skills by fostering student’s self- advocacy skills.
• Collaborates with Individual Education Plan (IEP) team in developing student IEPs, including goals and supplementary aids and services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid Professional Educators License (PEL) with an endorsement for a Teacher of Students Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
