Classroom for Moderately Cognitively Impaired (Ages 14-17)

REPORTS TO:                       
Classroom Teacher and Principal
 
WAGES:                                 
According to the MEA Contract
Starting wage: $14.09 per hour, or higher, based on actual years of experience.

SCHEDULE:
School-year position following the district calendar
Days: Monday to Friday
Hours: 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

STARTING DATE:                 
As soon as possible
 
JOB OBJECTIVE:
The Paraeducator is responsible for assisting teachers, Itinerant staff and others in the support of instructional, health related, recreation and/or pre-vocational job training activities.  The Paraeducator may be assigned to one classroom or to a variety of assignments depending on the needs of the students.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of training techniques, behavior modification, and task analysis.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment when addressing challenges pending supervisory assistance.
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with students, parents, community members, and colleagues.
• Ability to understand and work with children of all ages.
• Cooperative and effective oral and written communication skills, including active listening.
