Position Type: Temporary, Full-Time Substitute
Approximate Start Date: December 3, 2025
Compensation: $160 per day. This is a short-term substitute position and is not eligible for benefits.
Position Summary
The Greater Latrobe School District is seeking a qualified and dedicated Long-Term Substitute Reading Specialist to support student literacy development. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the district's reading initiatives, providing targeted remedial instruction, and serving as a key literacy resource for teachers, students, and parents.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Implement district-wide reading initiatives and curriculum standards with fidelity.
Conduct and analyze diagnostic assessments to identify students' reading abilities and areas for improvement.
Design, plan, and execute an effective remedial reading program for individuals and small groups based on student needs.
Serve as a primary resource for classroom teachers and parents regarding student reading development, progress, and instructional strategies.
Lead professional development workshops and demonstrations for faculty on effective reading instruction methods and materials.
Collaborate with teachers to recommend and integrate varied instructional materials, including texts, digital tools, and audiovisual aids.
Conduct parent conferences to discuss student progress, address concerns, and provide resources for at-home support.
Interpret student assessment data and statistical information to inform instruction and report on program effectiveness.
Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential student records, progress reports, and other required documentation.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the district administration.
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensure & Certification:
Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate
Valid Reading Specialist Certificate
Skills & Abilities:
Exceptional skill in both oral and written communication.
Strong ability to interpret assessment data to drive instructional decisions.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and parents.
Adept at managing records and preparing clear, concise reports.
