PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The job coach provides assistance to teachers and students by arranging and supporting student employment opportunities in the community. The role requires working with students and parents to complete required transition assessments and surveys. The coach will also help students on campus to develop job skills, coach them at various places of employment, and build partnerships with local businesses to create and sustain job opportunities for students with special needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 48 college hours or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) or willing to obtain
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate (School District will assist to obtain)
- Knowledge of CPR and other basic first aid techniques
- Valid Texas driver’s license with driving record that meets District requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must possess a basic understanding of the job market as it relates to students with disabilities.
Specialized knowledge pertaining to job training and development.
Ability to interact with and relate to children.
Ability to exercise judgment in handling student behavior and in assessing students’ skill levels.
Must demonstrate the belief that all students can work.
Must have personal transportation and be able to use it on the job (does not include transporting students).
Must be able to work flexible hours; some evenings, weekends, and/or summer hours will be required.
Experience:
One or more years working with people who have disabilities (three years preferred); experience in job training and development.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Provides training assistance for students who are working at community job sites.
Promotes positive student behavior and helps each student understand and uphold the daily expectations of the student’s workplace.
Develops, identifies, and analyzes jobs and adapt job stations for students in supported employment positions.
Effectively analyzes student needs and problem solves, leveraging available resources.
Documents student progress regularly and maintains written records regarding student job performance.
Assists and trains students to obtain and use various forms of transportation to and from the job.
Meets with students to explore career/job interests and assists students in finding appropriate jobs through the use of transition and career exploration tools.
Assists in developing job leads and opportunities.
Provides behavioral support for students as necessary.
Collaborates with the teacher on an individual student’s special needs.
Communicates effectively with students, parents, school staff, community agencies, and employers.
Establishes and maintains positive rapport with students, parents, teachers, peers, supervisors, and community partners.
Assists students and families with connecting to agencies.
Professionally represents the district using both verbal and written skills.
Coordinates with campus and district staff on a weekly basis to appropriately flex the correct schedule and effectively communicate that schedule.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.

While performing these duties, the employee is required to travel extensively in the local area and will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
