Description
- TITLE: School Licensed Practical Nurse
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have graduated from an accredited school of practical nursing and hold an license in good standing as a licensed practical nurse.
- Have a minimum of two years experience as a licensed practical nurse with at least one-year experience working with a pediatric population.
- Have good communication, organizational skills, and word processing skills and have basic knowledge of computer operations.
- Demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other school staff and the ability to work under the supervision of registered nurse.
- Be physically able to perform assigned activities.
- Have reliable transportation source as may be required to travel between job sites during school hours with reimbursement for mileage provided according to district policy.
- Be Red Cross CPR and first aid certified or attains such certification within 30 days of date of hire.
- Have or attain any additional skills or certification that the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- REPORTS TO: Supervisory Registered Nurse (RN)
- JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91's written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test.
To support the delivery of nursing services to students according to accepted nursing practice and perform other appropriate job duties assigned under the supervision of the supervisory RN.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with delivery of health services within the school health program utilizing appropriate nursing processes:
- Conducts self in a professional and positive manner in person, on the phone, and in written communication.
- Maintains current knowledge of students with special health needs/conditions.
- Records information regarding children's health accurately and confidentiality in the education record.
- Provides licensed practical nursing services (treatments, medication administration, contributing to assessments) as defined by the Idaho Nurse Practice Act and Rules and Regulations of the Idaho Board of Nursing, under the direction of a supervisory RN.
- Performs minor first aid and triage for students. Notifies a student's parents when appropriate and also his/her supervisory RN and school administrator in the event of more serious injuries or illness.
- Provides basic education for students and parents on health issues (i.e. hygiene, signs and symptoms of infection) according to the guidelines or direction of supervisory RN. Distributes approved nursing department handouts.
- Performs vision, scoliosis, head lice and growth/development screens for students according to approved department guidelines and under the supervision of RN. Also performs vital signs assessment and monitors student immunization status and compliance.
- Communicates any communicable disease outbreaks in the school population to the supervisory RN.
- Communicates regularly with supervisory RN regarding students with unmet health needs, recurrent health symptoms or abnormal findings.
- Communicates regularly with supervisory RN with relevant health information regarding special education students for Individual Education Plan and multi disciplinary team concerns.
- Seeks out and takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth.
- Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of health and student information.
- Has regular and predictable attendance.

- TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time position scheduled for 30.5 hours a week during the school year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 11 - $23.90 or $25.09 per hour depending on experience.
This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The "employment at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
- EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the assigned supervisory registered nurse and a building administrator in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
