Description
Science Olympiad Assistant Coach
Purpose: The Science Olympiad Coach and Assistant Coach support the facilitation of the Science Olympiad Program. The coach will facilitate team organization and development, weekly practices and student competitions.
Reports to: Middle School Principal
Qualifications:
- Possesses a Professional Educator License or Educator License with Stipulations issued by the Illinois State Board of Education,
- Background and knowledge in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Technology Field
- Organized with effective communication skills with students and adults
- Available to meet before and after school, and occasional evenings and weekends
- Prefer previous experience leading Science Olympiad or related organization
Assistant Coach Role & Expectations:
- Assists in determining the team make-up and the process therein to join (working with administration).
- Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the events they are involved in
- Monitors student progress in preparation for competitions
- Plans and schedules regular weekly practices leading to competition
- Enforces discipline and establishes and oversees consequences for breach of such standards
- Maintains competency in rules and general information about all aspects of Science Olympiad
- Creates practice tests and supports students on specific competition events
- Organizes equipment and supplies for the team
- Create a practice schedule (working with administration and the parent board) that balances kids interest in subjects with their schedules
- Work with Head Coach and Administration on any challenges that arise.
- Build relationships with the students.
- Model fun and engagement in the events.
- Model the enjoyment of the process and trying their best.
These are stipend positions. Total compensation for Head Coach is $3,502 and Assistant Coach is $2,335.
