English Language Development (ELD) Paraprofessional Position Summary: The ELD Paraprofessional supports English Learner (EL) students by providing academic assistance, language development support, and classroom accommodations under the direction and supervision of a licensed ELD or classroom teacher. The paraprofessional helps students develop English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while also supporting access to grade-level content.
Key Responsibilities: Work with individual or small groups of English Learner (EL) students to support English language acquisition.
Reinforce ELD lessons and content-area instruction provided by the ELD teacher or general education teacher.
Assist students with classroom work and assignments, modifying or adapting materials when necessary.
Encourage and support students' social-emotional growth and cultural inclusion within the school environment.
Track student progress and communicate observations to ELD and classroom teachers.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials aligned with students' language proficiency levels.
Use visuals, gestures, first language support (if possible), and other scaffolds to help students understand content.
Supervise students in various settings including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and during transitions, as needed.
Maintain confidentiality and support the goals of the ELD program and the broader school community.
Participate in training related to English language development, cultural competency, and instructional strategies.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred.
demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations, particularly students from multilingual and multicultural backgrounds.
Previous experience in an educational setting or with English Learners preferred.
Bilingual ability is an asset, but not required.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Patience, flexibility, and a supportive attitude toward students and staff.
Working Conditions: Works under the direction of the ELD or classroom teacher.
May work across multiple grade levels and content areas.
May be required to lift, stand, bend, or sit for extended periods.
Will interact regularly with students, teachers, and school staff.
