Director of Nursing
Position Purpose
Counsel students, parents, teachers, and others to help them obtain necessary treatments or to arrange school programs tailored to their abilities.
The Director of Nursing is a matrix relationship between the Associate Superintendent of Operations and Community Health Network to ensure competency in school nursing practices.
Essential Functions
- Appraise the health status of students and school personnel.
- Monitor and assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases.
- Provide emergency care for injury or sudden illness of students and school personnel.
- Protect and provide the general health of students and school personnel
- Work in conjunction with the administration in creating or evaluating policies and procedures related to the general health of students and school personnel.
- Work in conjunction with Human Resources to provide all state-required in-service trainings.
- Work in conjunction with Community Health Network to hire and train all building level nurses
- Evaluate the performance of building level nurses and provide action plans as appropriate.
- Supervision of immunization and all other required IDOE and State Health Department required documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Associate Superintendent for Operations or the Superintendent of Schools.
- Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, calculator, and telephone.
- Use of standard nursing equipment.
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Pay Rate
Administrative Pay Schedule.
Work Schedule
8 hours a day
260 days per year.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must meet the qualifications for a School Nurse, which include;
- Successfully meet the standards for the school services professional and the national standards for school nurses
- Obtained a bachelor’s degree from an approved school of nursing program
- Obtained a registered nurse’s license through the Indiana State Board of Nursing
- Motivates others through effective leadership. Requires excellent customer service
- Advanced oral and written communication, interpersonal, management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient technology skills (Google Suite)
- Meets timelines with appropriate attention to detail
- Develops effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Communicates with diverse groups of employees, parents, and students.
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge that the position may involve extended work hours to meet job responsibilities

License/ Registration/ Certification
- Current Indiana State Board of Nursing License.
- Current CPR License.
Education
- BA Degree in nursing
Experience
- Previous school nursing experience is required.
