Position / Title: Teacher Cross Categorical

Function / Position Summary
To provide individualized instruction in a co-teaching environment as mandated by a student's IEP. This position will be required to collaborate and plan instruction with the classroom teacher on a regular and ongoing basis in order to accelerate student progress towards meeting their goals.
 
 
Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Develop and foster a positive relationship with each student and their parent/guardian.
  • Provide direct services and instruction as mandated by the IEP.
  • Complete diagnostic components determined on domains sheet.
  • Enter diagnostic information into data-based screens and create a hard copy of the diagnostic report.
  • Shared responsibility for testing students as determined by School Service Team discussion.
  • Participate in School Service Team and IEP meetings.
  • Complete all required IEP paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Complete data-based screens for annual reviews/re-evaluations for caseload students.
  • Update progress reports quarterly.
  • Create, oversee and update data driven goals and objectives based on student needs, grade level, and state standards for caseload students.
  • Monitor caseload for annual review and re-evaluation dates.
  • Oversee that all services on an IEP are implemented.
  • Teach any subject area or grade level consisting of students on caseload, using best practice strategies and District directed curriculum and programs.
  • Differentiate, accommodate or modify instruction and curriculum according to each student's individual learning profile.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities with general education colleagues for planning for CORE instruction, co-teaching models/strategies, modifications and assessments.
  • Analyze student performance in relation to grade level peers in order to determine a student’s appropriate needs and opportunities for mainstreaming and co-teaching.
  • Implement district, building, classroom and IEP directed behavior plans such as PBIS, Functional Behavior Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Administration of classroom, district and state assessment.
  • Ongoing collaboration and communication with parents.
  • Attend school professional development.
  • Perform other requirements of the job in accordance with the ETA collective bargaining agreement.
Education
  • Illinois Teaching Certificate with LBS1 endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related subject from accredited university
  • Previous experience in Special Education preferred but not necessary for hire.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English Certification 
Experience / Knowledge
  • Knowledge of common core standards.
  • Knowledge of Elementary Dual Language curriculum.
  • Knowledge of instructional and resource programs for students with a variety of special education eligibility
Physical Demands
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching. 
Terms of Employment
  • This is a 9-month position.
