POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will help facilitate site efforts to address areas of concern in relation to due process, program development, and professional development in the areas of IEP development and data gathering, and service delivery by providing direct on-site support for 1-2 schools with day to day operations. This position will also be responsible for the following (through collaboration with administration): initiating and guiding staff development efforts related to student achievement and service delivery, facilitating and monitoring interventions at a site, program, and classroom level, and supporting job embedded staff development efforts to make data driven instructional and service delivery decisions, compliance coaching.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide a broad range of professional services to students, staff, families, and the community.
- Actively engage, collaborate, and consult with students, families, and community-based service providers in promoting school success for students, developing intervention strategies to assist with programming for students.
- Assist administration/serve as administrative liaison to:
- Support special education staff development activities that will positively impact student achievement and overall success.
- Assist with program options/additions for high needs students.
- Assist administration with behavioral interventions and alternatives to suspension.
- Assist in recruiting, supervising and evaluating the performance of special education staff and programs, including conducting formal teacher observations.
- Assess and implement staff development needs for special education and other staff.
- Assist with workshop sessions for licensed special education staff
- Conduct group training and individual coaching sessions as needed
- Monitor and evaluate special education programs and services for compliance with District’s expectations, State and Federal rules.
- Be first contact for community and continuum of care facilities regarding return or admittance of students
- Serve as support for resource and program students and staff.
- Attend IEP meetings and participate in IEP development.
- Assist administration with due process compliance, improve IEP goal/objective writing, increase proficiency in evaluation writing, and collaborate with regular education teachers to meet students’ needs in the regular education classroom.
- Assist in recruiting, selecting, and supervising, managing, training and evaluating special education paraprofessionals
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:
- A Master’s Degree in Special Education Instruction or related special education field.
- Current Minnesota Teaching license in Special Education or related field.
- A valid Minnesota Director of Special Education License, K-12 Principal license, or currently enrolled in a Director of Special Education program or K-12 Principal licensure program.
- Minimum of three (3) years of teaching or supervisory experience
- Experience working with school aged children.
- Strong communication skills
- Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
- Ability to utilize technology to support daily job functions.
- Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
- Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
