Position: Building Education Assistant 
Program/Building: 622 Alternative High/District Education Center
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6 hours per day, student contact days
Start Date: Fall 2025
Pay:  $22.00 per hour

Required Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
  • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
  • Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelors degree, or
  • Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment.  (For more information on the ParaPro Assessment, contact Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476 or www.ets.org/parapro
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferably in Education) Prior education assistant/paraprofessional or teaching experience Library experience

Responsibilities:
The Building Education Assistant will support teaching staff through any combination of Classroom EA, Copy Room EA, Intervention EA, and Media EA duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities may include any of the following:

Classroom EA:
  • Assist in compiling classroom communications
  • Organize and process book orders, fundraisers, and other special projects
  • Coordinate bulletin board displays and/or student artwork displays
  • Assist with field trip and assembly preparations
  • Assist in the administration of standardized testing, including computer set-up
  • Support the testing coordination team in organizing, scheduling, and monitoring tests
  • Work with individual and/or small groups of students to reinforce instructed material
  • Photocopy, laminate, and otherwise prepare classroom materials as needed
Copy Room EA:
  • Operate Xerox, laminator, and construction paper machines
  • Staple, collate, and enlarge/reduce copy requests
  • Report the need for equipment repair or replacement as needed
  • Maintain current and accurate files of materials that need to be ordered/copied
  • Coordinate with the building secretary to order necessary supplies
  • Assist office staff with filing as necessary
Intervention EA:
  • Assist students with reading and math skills by use of oral reading, flash cards, conducting tests, and related instructional reinforcement activities
  • Conduct tests and informal quizzes to assess students’ mastering of material taught
  • Assist in maintaining test records, preparing progress reports, and monitoring student progression
  • Prepare and copy worksheets and learning materials
  • Organize students’ work/records for parent-teacher conferences
  • Work with students on skills assigned by the classroom teacher
  • Attend and participate in planning sessions with Intervention teaching staff
Media EA:
  • At the start of each school year, enter new students’ data into the media center system and delete data from the system for students that have left
  • Maintain accurate student records throughout the school year
  • Open and close the media center daily
  • Assist in checking books in and out of the library
  • Assist in organizing and re-organizing the media center when necessary
  • Supervise students in the media center, managing behavior as needed
  • Schedule group use of the media center
  • Collect and print overdue notices
  • Maintain organization in the library
  • Set up special areas in the library to highlight different books
  • Repair/replace damaged books and prepare new books for the library
  • Assist students with internet searches and assist students and staff in finding materials in the media center
  • During the last weeks of school, complete an inventory of books
  • Collaborate with teachers to create a list of books to order each year
  • Organize, prepare, check out, and return materials for testing
  • Run the copier, printer, and fax machine as needed
  • Provide basic technical support
  • Contact technology support staff if computers or printers in the media center are not functioning properly
