Education/Certification:
- High school graduate
Knowledge/ Skills Required:
- Thorough knowledge of Federal, State and Local rules and regulations regarding at-risk students, as well as knowledge of the public education system.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective analytical and problem solving abilities, along with the ability to plan, organize and conduct events.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with others, and have the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
- Strong public relations, interpersonal skills, and ability to resolve conflicts, listen, and appropriately respond to concerns with administrators, teachers, at-risk students, and parents.
- Ability to work independently, make work-related decisions, and exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks.
Function
Supports the Office of Admissions, Attendance, and Student Support Services by providing contact tracing and communication follow-up to facilitate the return of students who are at-risk, truant, active and potential dropouts, and leavers at assigned middle and elementary campuses.
Reports To:
Director for Admissions, Attendance, and Student Support Services
Responsibilities:
- Notifies parents and students of state law regarding attendance requirements.
- Makes home visits to parents to inquire of students' nonattendance or for address verifications upon receiving principals' requests.
- Communicate and collaborate with High School Attendance Officers.
- Study cases on an individual basis; determines which attendance cases require legal proceedings.
- Contact retained students to begin identifying obstacles to succeed.
- Monitor absences, grades and behavior of identified at-risk students and conduct phone calls, conferences, and/or visit students' homes to discuss progress.
- Monitor student attendance contracts and provide ongoing updates to the student and parents.
- Communication with the assigned campus attendance committee to target support for attendance, dropouts, and leavers prevention.
- Work with administrators/teachers/counselors/ to provide individual or group activities on achievement, attendance, self-concept development and behavior improvement.
- Conduct an exit conference with students planning to withdraw from school.
- Maintain records of all student/parent/teacher/contacts.
- Participate in staff development.
- Assists school administrators in patrolling school grounds and surrounding areas upon request.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the director.
- Serve as an active member of assigned campus attendance committees.
- Works as a collaborative team member of the Office of Admissions, Attendance, and Student Support Services office staff and its Director.
- Support efforts for the annual district "Keep Every Youth in School " (KEYS) Walk.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Manipulate tools/ equipment/ keyboards, regularly used computer programs (excel, microsoft word, eSchoolPlus, i.e.)
- Convey information and/ or instruction to internal/ external customers through spoken expression
- Perform work while standing and/ or walking for extended periods, up to eight (8) hours a day
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license.
- Occasional prolonged and irregular hours
- Other duties as assigned.
