Salary: $48,286 and up depending on experience

Hours Per Day: 8
This position is at Superstition Springs Elementary and is a Job Share position. The schedule would be one week on and one week off. Candidate would share the position with another RN.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose Statement
The job School Registered Nurse is done for the purpose/s of providing the maximum educational opportunity for each student by creating a climate of good health and wellbeing through education, screenings, nursing assessment and medical attention

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for assuring immunization compliance and disease surveillance.
  • Responsible for vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings to meet State Law.
  • Responsible for day to day Health Office activities including first aid, medication dispensing, nursing assessment, nursing tasks (catheterization, gastrostomy tube medications, tube feedings, SVN treatments as required) and other typical RN duties.
  • Responsible for maintaining all documentation both written and on computer system.
  • Prepare individualized school healthcare plans, emergency plans, transportation health care plans and training on interventions in the plans.
  • Work with the IEP team to provide optimal educational environment for medically fragile students.
  • Participate on behavioral health teams, crisis and safety teams, and provide faculty trainings on Bloodborne Pathogen, Child Abuse and other areas of health concern.
  • Implementation of health services in accordance with legally and professionally recognized nursing practice within the limits and policies of the school district and the Arizona Board of Nursing.

Other Functions

  • Must have good computer skills.
  • Must have good communication skills working with students, staff, and parents.  
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be comfortable with speaking with large groups to do trainings.
  • Able to work well with teams of multidisciplinary backgrounds.
  • Pediatric and/or School Nurse experience desired.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds without restrictions.
  • Prefer at least two years of clinical RN experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Mental Requirements
Learning Development- Level D  Specialized vocational or technical knowledge providing a command of certain technical, administrative, and/or operative practices and techniques. Learning development involves the completion of a formal technical/vocational curriculum often resulting in a degree.
Problem Solving - Level 3  Work situations are of sufficient scope and variety that significant interpretation and evaluation is required to successfully recognize and define problems. Highly technical judgments and/or constructive thinking involved. Alternative solutions must be considered and short-term action plans must be developed and sequenced.

Physical Requirements
Physical Skill - Level B  Some learned physical skill is required. Certain coordinated finger, limb, or body movements must be performed in the course of regular work routines. These can usually be learned and competency developed on the job over a relatively short period of time.
Physical Effort - Level 1  Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.

Social Requirements
Human Relations Skill- Level B  Job requires patience in communication and well-developed verbal skills to exchange technical or complex information with individuals or small, informal groups. skills in establishing harmonious relationships and gaining cooperation are important.
Scope of Contacts - Level 2  Interpersonal contacts extend to peers in other work groups, or to clients/customers who speak the language, either within or outside the organization. interactions with higher levels of authority beyond the immediate supervisor must be conducted on an intermittent basis.

Work Environment
Performance Environment - Level B  Work pressure, disturbances of work flow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills.
Physical Working Conditions - Level 4 Extensive and continuous exposure to hazardous conditions. Dangerous work situations. High likelihood of serious injury or illness if proper precautions are not taken. highly undesirable assignments.

Level of Accountability -Level B  Responsible for producing journey-level work output on an independent basis subject to supervisory direction and review.
Organizational Impact - Level 3  Work results, decisions, and approvals impact the overall design of internal systems, programs, and/or research; the status of others; and/or critical aspects of the final product or service in terms of quantity or quality.

Experience, Education, and Certifications
Experience: Job related experience within specialized field is required.
Education:  Associate or Bachelor degree from an accredited educational institution.
Certifications/Clearances: Valid Arizona Standard Professional Teacher Certificate.  Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed. 
Continuing Educ. / Training: CPR

Compensation Details
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Schedule:  RN License in good standing, National School Nurse Certification (Recommended)
Required Testing: Evidence of Hepatitis B Series
Work Calendar:  Nurse 9 Month
