Job Title: Speech and Language Pathologist
 
Classification: Certified
 
Accountability: Reports to building-level administrators and the Director of Special Education
 
Job Profile: The Speech & Language Pathologist is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to students in an effort to help them develop their speech and language skills and facilitate their personal, social, and intellectual development.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 
  • Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings, and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical services
  • Monitor student progress and participate in the comprehensive evaluation and review process
  • Develop and implement IEPs; ensure goals are aligned to state standards; provide therapy, follow-up, and consultation as necessary
  • Provide consultation to parents, teachers, and administrators ensuring all parties are aware of students’ needs and familiar with available special services
  • Assist with the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and effective classroom strategies
  • Facilitate a positive, differentiated learning environment that responds to the individual needs of each student
  • Maintain appropriate compliance through daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports
  • Stay abreast of new developments, ideas, and strategies in speech and language pathology; provide staff development as needed; assist with public awareness activities throughout the school, District, and community 
 
Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
  • Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited college or university 
  • Professional Educator License, Illinois State Board of Education Type 10 or Type 73, or
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) or Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) 
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in English
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of speech-related conditions, causes, and treatments
  • Attentive and caring with prior responsibility for developing IEPs
  • Prior experience working with children/adolescents
  • Passion for working with children/adolescents
  • Willingness/Ability to assist with the management of student misbehavior
 Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in Spanish
  • Knowledge of First Aid
  • Knowledge of peer mediation and conflict resolution techniques and the ability to apply these strategies in the lunchroom or on the playground

  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations including special education laws
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior; serve as a role model for students and other staff
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Other duties as assigned
Salary:
  • Salary Range:  FY26 Salary Schedule; Initial salary is determined by prior experience and education.
