The Pawtucket School Department seeks a strategic, equity-focused leader to serve as the District Coordinator of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Reporting to the Superintendent or designee, the MTSS Coordinator will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a districtwide tiered support system to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all students.
This position will play a critical role in ensuring that supports are proactive, data-informed, and culturally responsive across all schools. The MTSS Coordinator will work collaboratively with central office teams, school-based leadership, teachers, and community partners to build systems and capacity for inclusive, student-centered practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation and alignment of a districtwide MTSS framework that addresses academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to schools in designing and sustaining effective Tier 1, 2, and 3 systems of support.
- Work cross-departmentally with Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, SEL/Mental Health, and Data & Accountability.
- Facilitate development of data-based decision-making practices, including universal screening, progress monitoring, and intervention planning.
- Support schools in the use of MTSS teams to analyze student data, identify needs, and monitor outcomes.
- Guide the selection, implementation, and fidelity monitoring of evidence-based interventions.
- Lead professional development for school teams and district staff on MTSS best practices, equity-centered decision-making, and restorative approaches.
- Develop tools, protocols, and resources to support consistent MTSS implementation across all schools.
- Ensure MTSS systems are inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive, and address the needs of all learners including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement processes by evaluating MTSS implementation and student outcomes across the district.
- Engage families and community partners in the MTSS process to support student learning and well-being.
- Serve as a key thought partner to the Superintendent and central office teams in supporting whole-child development.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
- Rhode Island certification in appropriate area (e.g., administrator, counselor, school psychologist).
- Minimum of five years of successful experience in education, including school or district leadership roles.
- Deep understanding of MTSS, PBIS, and Response to Intervention (RTI) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and apply findings to improve systems and student outcomes.
- Experience coaching educators and leading professional development efforts.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and whole-child education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coordinating MTSS or PBIS systems at the school or district level.
- Familiarity with restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
- Experience working in an urban school district with diverse student populations.
- Expertise in implementation science and systems change strategies.
