Job Title: Early Years Spanish After School Teacher
Supervised by: Director of WIS Extended Learning
Staff Supervises: WIS Afterschool Program Children
Status: Non-Exempt; Part-Time employment
Hourly Rate: $22 Schedule: Monday - Friday 3:00-6:00 pm. Wednesdays 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm
General DescriptionEarly Years (EY) After School teachers must be enthusiastic, creative, industrious, responsible, punctual, and resourceful and have a genuine appreciation for children. EY After School Teacher duties fall into three areas: (a) Lead groups of children in carrying out activities during the course of the day as needed, (b) supervise and actively engage children during class time, on the playground or in the gym and (c) actively support other WISEL staff members as needed to insure that all safe best practices are followed.
Early Years (EY) After School teachers are expected to carry out instructions from the Director of WISEL, the Assistants to the Director and other senior staff. Their goal is to create a positive learning experience for children, which supports their Spanish language acquisition, social and emotional skill development and the positive atmosphere of the community as a whole.
Early Years After School teachers oversee supervision, plan age-appropriate lessons and activities in Spanish; ensure the safety and well-being of all children, and contribute to the effective operation of WIS’ programs according to standards of excellence.
Responsibilities and Duties
? Plan age appropriate lessons, activities and deliver engaging instruction to students.
? Send weekly written recap emails to families summarizing projects students completed during the week.
? Prepare daily materials by gathering supplies, and doing advanced prep-work such as portioning out, paper cutting or photocopying as needed; making examples of activity crafts to demonstrate final outcomes to children.
? Communicate with daytime teachers to ensure alignment with what students are learning during the day.
? Assist with the preparation and serving of snacks to children as needed.
? Provide supervision and direction for children and work to maintain their safety.
? Document incidents and/or accidents that occur while children are in the group and report to Auxiliary Programs management, along with any other problems or concerns.
? Maintain group attendance sheets and submit to WISEL Director.
? Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude at all times, with children, staff, parents and other community members.
? Perform duties outside the scope of this position description as requested.
Attend all scheduled and mandatory meetings and training events as well as special events and activities hosted by WIS Auxiliary Programs.
? Be physically able to participate in all activities planned for children including, active gross motor skills activities and actively monitoring students during field trips to insure their safety. Maintain a positive attitude toward work, co-workers, parents and children, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
Requirements: Candidates must have at least three years of experience in an after school teacher role.
