Job Title: Student Success Specialist
Reports to: Director of Counseling
SUMMARY
Support campus administrators and counselors by providing supplemental social, emotional, drug prevention, and college, career, military readiness services related to the needs of all students, so that students benefit from the Stronger Connections Student Support Program, meet state academic standards, graduate, and achieve postsecondary goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the successful implementation of the school’s Stronger Connections Student Support Program to support all students.
- Collaborates with administration and the school counselor/s to coordinate and implement the Stronger Connections program. Focuses on enhancing students' social and emotional well-being while promoting drug awareness, prevention, and intervention strategies.
- Incorporates emerging and best practices research on Social Emotional Learning.
- Supports the campus by planning, organizing, implementing, and delivering program activities to improve students’ Intrapersonal Effectiveness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Personal Health and Safety and Post-Secondary Planning and Readiness.
- Provides guidance and support to students and families in building social and emotional competencies to enhance academic success.
- Delivers classroom activities using effective instructional skills and intentionally planned, structured group sessions for students based on student needs.
- Actively participates in staff development and training opportunities to improve job-related skills and stay current on best practices for implementing the Stronger Connections Student Support Program
- Collaborates with the educational team, parents, and community agencies to facilitate students’ academic and socio-emotional potential.
- Performs supplemental services to help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with home and school.
- Serves as a consultant to teachers addressing students' social and emotional needs within the classroom.
- Clearly articulates the role of socio-emotional competencies in student success to administrators, teachers, parents, and community members.
- Conducts a needs assessment of the campus as required to address and/or improve student support services.
- Provides parent and staff training and consultation on personal and social development.
- Demonstrates professional and responsible work habits. Uses professional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Performs other supplemental duties related to At-Risk students as assigned.
- Build partnerships with community organizations to provide additional resources and support to students and families.
- Collect and analyze student data to measure program effectiveness.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, and three years of social work experience or one year of experience working with school-age students.
Preferred: Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field. Three years of experience working with school-age students or in an educational setting. School counselor certification or license in a behavioral health profession. All licenses must be issued by the State of Texas and must be active. Experience with small group and large group presentations to students, parents, and educators is preferred.
