Department Chairperson - PE

Position Purpose
To provide leadership of professionalism in teaching and learning.

Essential Job Functions

  • Order all department texts, materials and supplies and maintain all records and inventories.
  • Schedule teaching assignments.
  • Plan/conduct monthly department meetings.
  • Address the needs of substitute teachers.
  • Follow the approved courses of study in teaching assignments.
  • Use effective instructional methodologies and assessments that focus on state standards.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate student lesson plans and records.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate communications with staff, students, and parents.
  • Develop departmental grade data.
  • Commit to professional development activities.
  • Attendance at extra-curricular activities and building supervision.
  • Assist in establishing department curriculum objectives and develop a plan for the implementation and evaluation of these objectives.
  • Coordinate curriculum mapping.

Equipment
Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, calculator, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

  • Awareness of current research and best practices in specific content area.

  • Evidence of prior involvement/participation in staff development activities.

  • Valid Indiana Teacher’s License.

Education
  • BS/BA Degree.

Experience
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience.
