Position Title: Substitute Teacher – Certified
Department: Substitute Services
Reports To: Building Principal and District Substitute Specialist
Location: Show Low Unified School District
Position Summary:
The Substitute Teacher provides instructional coverage in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position follows established lesson plans, maintains a productive learning environment, and ensures the continuity of educational instruction. Flexibility and professionalism are essential.
Qualifications:
Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or Substitute Teaching Certificate
Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Three professional references (must include email addresses)
Copies of required documents must be uploaded at the time of application submission
Incomplete applications will be closed after 30 days
Terms of Employment:
As Needed
Daily Assignment Compensation:
$125.00 per full day / $62.50 per half day – Regular Substitute
$150.00 per full day / $75.00 per half day – Retired Arizona Certified Teacher
Long-Term Assignment Compensation (Beginning on the 21st consecutive day in the same position):
$140.00 per full day / $70.00 per half day
Performance Responsibilities:
Implement lesson plans left by the regular teacher and maintain instructional momentum
Respect and support the individual learning needs of all students
Maintain accurate records, including attendance and any required documentation
Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information
Manage the learning environment effectively, including student behavior and instructional time
Consult with administrators or colleagues if clarification on lesson plans or procedures is needed
Report injuries, accidents, student concerns, or discipline issues immediately to the appropriate staff
Submit a written summary of the day’s activities to the regular teacher
Return all instructional materials, keys, and equipment at the end of each day
Check assignment status in the district’s absence management system regularly
Demonstrate flexibility with grade levels and subject areas when needed
Maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with staff and administration
Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, and stoop frequently throughout the day
Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally
Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment:
Typical school setting with moderate noise levels
May be required to move between campuses or adjust assignments throughout the day
