Head Coach-Boys Basketball - Middle School

Position Title: Head Boys Basketball Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director

Location: Naches Valley Middle School
Screening for minimum qualifications and district screening will be conducted on a rolling basis beginning June 19, 2025, and may be extended to ensure a robust and competitive applicant pool.

Position Summary:
The Head Boys Basketball Coach at the middle school level is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the boys’ basketball program. The head coach will be in charge of creating a positive learning environment focused on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success. This role includes planning practices, coaching games, supervising athletes, managing assistant coaches, collaborating with varsity and junior varsity coaches, and communicating with school staff and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and implement effective daily practices and game strategies.

• Teach fundamental basketball skills, rules, and techniques appropriate for middle school athletes of varying skill levels.

• Promote good sportsmanship, work ethic, and character both on and off the court.

• Supervise student-athletes at all practices, games, and team events.

• Monitor academic performance and behavior of team members in collaboration with school staff.

• Communicate regularly with players, parents/guardians, and school administrators using school identified communication tool (Remind, Parent Square).

• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices and competitions.

• Coordinate with the athletic director regarding game schedules, equipment needs, and program logistics.

• Maintain and care for team equipment and uniforms including inventory, washing and storing.

• Uphold all school, district, and league policies and expectations.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated knowledge of basketball rules, skills, coaching strategies and Mid-Valley League Standard Operating Procedures.

• Previous coaching experience with middle school or youth athletes.

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to mentor, motivate, and positively influence middle school students.

• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

• Must pass all background checks and meet district employment requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience as a head coach or assistant coach at the middle or high school level.

Work Schedule:
Seasonal position; includes weekday practices and weeknight games.

Compensation:
Stipend in accordance with district athletic pay scale.
