Monroe Public Schools is seeking a qualified and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2025–2026 academic year. This secondary-level position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with disabilities.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reports to: Building Principal and Regional Director of Special Education (MCISD)
Location: Monroe High School
Start Date: August 26, 2025
POSITION PURPOSE
To provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with federal and state laws, individualized education programs (IEPs), and district policies. The teacher will create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that fosters student growth in academics, communication, social-emotional skills, and independence.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with IEP team members, in accordance with IDEA and Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
- Deliver specially designed instruction aligned with each student’s IEP goals, using evidence-based strategies and materials.
- Administer and interpret academic and functional assessments to guide instruction and document student progress.
- Collect and maintain accurate records, including data related to IEP goals, progress reports, parent communication, and required compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with general education staff to support the inclusion of students in the least restrictive environment (LRE), including consultation and co-teaching as appropriate.
- Implement positive behavior supports and interventions as outlined in Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) or Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs).
- Participate in IEP team meetings, Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meetings, and parent conferences.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure consistency and collaboration in supporting student needs.
- Coordinate with school-based and external service providers, including occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, and social workers.
- Maintain compliance with Section 504, FERPA, IDEA, and district-level policies.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on special education best practices, legal updates, and instructional strategies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least one of the following endorsements:
- SA – Cognitive Impairment (CI)
- SM – Emotional Impairment (EI)
- SV – Learning Disabilities (LD)
- Other applicable Special Education endorsements at the secondary level.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and administrators in a collaborative team setting.
- Strong understanding of special education law, IEP development, data-driven instruction, and inclusive practices.
- Proficient in the use of technology for instruction, communication, and compliance documentation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching students with disabilities at the secondary level.
- Training or experience in co-teaching, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Familiarity with IEP forms and platforms.
