General Function:
Assists and supports the SFPS Superintendent in attaining the goals and objectives set by the Superintendent and the District.  Provides policy advice, decision-making, and operational assistance to the Superintendent’s direct reports. Accountable for planning, supervising, and facilitating support services and programs. Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the District’s community relations, public relations, and government relations departments. 
 
Education/Training/Experience:
Minimum:  Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a concentration in education administration, education development, public service, or business. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible supervisory or administrative work experience in educational or business operations management or public relations; this experience may be in schools, public agencies, or private businesses. Demonstrated evidence of strong organizational, leadership, and managerial skills. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
 
Preferred:  Successful teaching and school level or district administrative experience. Bilingual in English – Spanish.
 
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates effective communications skills, including speaking, listening, writing, and public speaking. Interacts with respect for all employees, executive staff, BOE members, and community leaders using tact, patience and courtesy. Knowledge of key processes that increase operational efficiencies and assure high-level customer service. Must process excellent skills in management and organization, problem solving, and public relations.  Meets with various community-based organizations on a regular basis and attends New Mexico State Department of Education meetings, as well as regular internal meetings. Experience with professional finances and budgeting.
 
Essential Job Functions:
Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following:
  1. Physically present at District offices or sites designated by the Superintendent; evening and weekend work may be required.
  2. Collaborates with the Superintendent to develop goals, objectives, and policies for school district administrative services that facilitate and support improved learning and achievement for all students enrolled in Santa Fe Public Schools.
  3. Evaluates school district departments and divisions for effectiveness, quality of service, efficacy and efficiency in accomplishing school district goals.
  4. Ensures school district administrative services are in compliance with school board policies, local, state, and federal laws. 
  5. Plans and coordinates the evaluation programs for the Superintendent’s support staff.
  6. Monitors and assists in the development and implementation of corrective action plans for the Superintendent’s support staff.
  7. Develops and monitors self-assessment and internal compliance systems and programs to ensure successful achievement of school district goals and objectives.
  8. Serves as the Superintendent liaison to school board members.
  9. Provides oversight and direction related to district relations, public relations, government relations, parental and community involvement, and policy development and compliance.
  10. Manages the Superintendent’s executive support staff and the Volunteer Program.
  11. Meets with various community-based organizations on a regular basis and attends regular internal meetings.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
 
Salary Range:
$123,000 to $170,000
 
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): 
Standard educational and office equipment including computers, phones, copy machines, and a vehicle for districtwide travel to meetings and school sites.
 
Physical/Cognitive Requirements: 
The work is primarily performed in an office at a desk. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations; at times bending, squatting, reaching, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push up to 40 pounds. Frequent trips by automobile to school sites and departments is required. Competence using standard office software, including word processing, presentation builders, spreadsheets, and internet browsers. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
 
Environmental Conditions: 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel from site to site is required for meetings.

  6. Protects the district’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  7. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
