Reports To: Network Administrator
PURPOSE: The Network Technician is a crucial member of the Information Technology team in the school district. This position is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of the district's computer network and related systems. The Network Technician will assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of network infrastructure, offering technical support to school staff, students, and administration.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.
Experience:
2 years of related work experience.
Proven experience in network administration and support.
Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, macOS, and Linux) and network services (DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of networking technologies, protocols, and hardware (e.g., Cisco).
Familiarity with network security principles and best practices.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Network Maintenance:
Monitor and maintain the school district's computer network to ensure its reliable and optimal performance.
Troubleshoot network issues, diagnose problems and implement solutions promptly.
Perform routine network upgrades, updates, and system configurations to improve network efficiency under the supervision of the Network Administrator.
Technical Support:
Provide technical assistance to school staff, students, and administration regarding network-related problems and queries.
Assist with device setup, configuration, and software installations for end-users.
Educate end-users on best practices for network and computer usage.
Network Security:
enforce security measures provided by the Information Security Analyst to safeguard the network against potential threats and breaches.
Network Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of network configurations, changes, and inventory of network equipment and software licenses to be reported to the Network Administrator.
Create and update network diagrams, documentation, and user manuals in collaboration with the Network Administrator.
Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
Respond to network-related incidents and outages in a timely and efficient manner.
Identify the root causes of network issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with other IT team members to address technology-related issues and projects.
Work with third-party vendors and service providers as needed for network support and maintenance.
Education and Certifications
Maintaining relevant certifications and or further education as required by job duties
The district will provide the needed time and resources to accomplish this requirement.
Performs other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk and hear.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

The work environment is in an office setting.
