Position Overview
The Pep Band Advisor at MCHS is responsible for organizing and directing the school's pep band, which performs at various school events, including sports games, pep rallies and the Armed Forces Day Parade.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions).
Band Direction
Conduct and lead the pep band during rehearsals outside of contract hours and performances inside and outside of contract hours.
Select appropriate music and arrange it for the band.
Ensure students are prepared for performances.
Student Management
Recruit and train students to be part of the pep band.
Assign parts and provide individual and group instruction as needed.
Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all band members.
Collaboration and Communication
Work with school administration and staff to coordinate performances.
Communicate with students and parents regarding schedules and expectations.
Promote the pep band within the school and community.
Administrative Duties
Maintain an inventory of instruments and equipment.
Ensure all activities comply with school policies and safety regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods. Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods of time. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of files, stacks of paper or reports, references, and other materials. Some reach for items above and below desk level. Some reaching, bending, squatting, and stooping to access files and records is necessary. The manual dexterity and cognitive ability to operate a personal computer using word processing and databases. Involves hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Light lifting (up to 25 pounds) is occasionally required.

Work is performed under the following conditions.
Exposure to climate controlled classroom settings and to outside weather with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. May involve exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud for occasional to frequent time periods. May involve work in crowded environments.
Hazards: Classroom furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals (as related to specific assignment), and power/hand operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
Blood-Borne Pathogens: An encounter with blood or other bodily fluids may occur in this line of work. You will be expected to know and follow the safety steps in the safety training provided annually.
