NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School Building Leader (SBL) certificate by the time of appointment. Candidates must have a minimum of six (6) years of experience in K-12 education (3 years at the supervisory/administrative level at the elementary level, and 3 years of experience as a state education department certified educator). Previous instructional coaching experience preferred. Candidates with prior administrative experience in an urban school district with a large racially and economically diverse population are preferred and encouraged to apply.
JOB SUMMARY:
Position requires the planning, organization, and implementation of the appropriate instructional program to address the learning needs of the students; to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their potential in both curricular and extracurricular activities. PCSD APs should demonstrate exceptional knowledge of school operations, communication skills while interfacing with parents, and working with diverse populations. APs are responsible for evaluating staff, providing input on the construction of the master schedule, discipling students in a fair and consistent manner, directing instructional programs, and collaborating with teachers and support staff.
PCSD assistant principals have the primary responsibility for establishing elementary schools as active learning centers with a focus on student engagement, professional support for teachers, instructional practices that lead to dramatic academic progress, and measurable results.
Candidates should have:
- A passionate belief in the capacity of all children to learn and succeed and a sense of urgency about making that real for PCSD students;
- Demonstrated instructional leadership that have yielded success in raising student outcomes;
- School turnaround and change management experience;
- Experience working effectively with urban schools, students and families, and outside partners to support social, emotional and wellness success;
- Deep understanding of the teaching and learning process, and how to create high-performance learning environments;
- Personal sense of accountability around student academic progress, carried out through effective instructional leadership and staff support;
- Ability to understand and use data to drive decision making, and
- Consensus building, strategic and collaborative management skills.
DUTIES:
The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) is committed to providing students and parents with pathways to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. Pertinent components of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Assists the Principal in the development, implementation, improvement, and evaluation of the instructional program ensuring conformance to state standards, the District’s code of conduct, and Board of Education goals and policies;
- Works collaboratively with all staff to strengthen the instructional program;
- Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school;
- Assumes responsibility for the safety of students and staff. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program. Walks about the school building and property to monitor safety and security;
- Establishes effective communication and maintains positive relationships with district administrative offices, students, staff, parents, and community.
- Works with the Principal in compiling annual budget requests;
- Assists in the preparation of the master schedules, staff assignments, student scheduling, cumulative records, and attendance reports;
- Assists in the communication, implementation, and observance of all Board policies and regulations by staff and students;
- Assists the Principal in teacher evaluations;
- Responsible for special duty assignments as directed by the Principal;
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attend school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events, when possible;
- Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development;
- Assists in the recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating of the building staff;
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
SALARY:
In accordance with the PPSAA contract, $108,174 - $127,423.
