Position: K8 Special Education Coordinator
Employment Type: 10 month, full time

Position Summary: MOT is a small school on a mission to provide a 21st century education to all students. As a part of the MOT K8 staff, you will engage and support teachers and students with a first class learning experience that maximizes their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development, including the development of their ability to apply their intellect to solving problems and contribute to their communities as enlightened and responsible citizens.
In this position, you will be a leader in identifying and recognizing the needs of exceptional learners and be responsible to develop IEP’s, set meeting schedules with parents and staff, coordinate with special education staff and be responsive to students’ needs in order to implement plans and collaborate with classroom teachers to meet learning goals.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Manage IEP meeting schedules and coordinate with the psychologist to ensure meetings are held within appropriate timelines and serve as Designee at IEP meetings.
  • Support caseload of identified students with consultative inclusion services by offering content and instruction that ensures student achievement of school’s academic standards.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies (OT, PT, DVR, DDDS, DVI, etc.) according to the needs of the student and in alignment with the Individual Education Plan IEP, this includes scheduling transition services.
  • Provide all paperwork related to the invitation process to families and students when applicable. Notify all other necessary team members in the scheduling process using Outlook Calendar.
  • Develop, review/revise student’s Individual Education Plans (IEP) and ensure that drafts are received by all necessary stakeholders in sufficient time prior to IEP meetings.
  • Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process within state limitations.
  • Collect, review and organize relevant assessment data from cumulative files, student’s educational records, previous IEP/Evaluations, classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, and parents. This includes student transition survey data.
  • Use accepted data sources, classroom observation, and input from parents, teachers, and associated school professionals to develop IEPs that meet needs and work towards academic, social, and behavioral growth for individual students.
  • Maintain updated student audit files and any related documentation to support students’ needs to be in compliance with state requirements.
  • Support and fully participate in a school culture that focuses on student learning by being a leader in advocating for and identifying the needs of exceptional children.
  • Effectively plan and organize for instruction by working together with the special and regular education teachers as needed, and sharing information and insight about student growth/needs.
  • Communicate with administration, teachers, and parents about the needs and progress of the student.
  • Maintain communication logs and review progress monitoring data for each student prior to sending home.
  • Conduct IEP meetings that are responsive to student’s needs, respectful and inclusive of the parents and their concerns, and in compliance with all MOT and State of Delaware processes and procedures.
  • Motivate students and set high expectations and demonstrate sensitivity to different learning styles.
  • Demonstrate genuine concern for students in a climate characterized by high personal and student expectations.
  • Promote good citizenship as a leader and act in accordance with the highest professional and ethical principles.
  • Use technology effectively for administrative tasks, and communications.
  • Continually strive to improve classroom methods, teaching techniques, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Display pride and positive approach when participating in the school culture. Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings and on committees as requested.
  • Identify and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Have superior written and oral communications skills, ability to work on multiple projects and have ability to accurately/timely respond to requests and deadlines.
  • Adhere to all student and personnel school policies as outlined in the MOT Charter School Family Handbook and the Employee Manual. Share a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of the MOT Charter School.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, board members, parents, students, the Department of Education, and the larger M.O.T. community and motivate/create a shared vision within MOT Charter School.

Required Education/Skills:
  • Successful candidates will be certified by the State of Delaware and have a Continuing License with Special Education Certification
  • Candidates must demonstrate a firm knowledge of special education laws and requirements,
  • Candidates must demonstrate leadership skills and experience in a leadership role is preferred.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in special education.
