NOTICE OF VACANCY
TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
REPORTS TO: Director of Coordinated School
SUPERVISES: N/A
TERM: 10 Months (200-day calendar), Non-Exempt
JOB GOAL: To enhance the educational process by improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of students by implementing the established standards of school nursing practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License
- Valid Driver's License
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
- FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable
EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides wellness, health promotion and counseling services.
- Provides Health Education to students, families, and staff.
- Provides emergency care for students and staff.
- Provides illness and injury prevention.
- Evaluates children for chronic and acute illnesses and treats or refers as needed.
- Provides education and training to teachers who have chronically ill children in their classroom with conditions that might warrant emergency treatment.
- Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students with contagious infections and illnesses.
- Performs health screens as indicated by the Coordinated School Health model, refers, and follows up on assessments as needed.
- Develops the Individual Health Plan (IHP) as mandated by the state of Tennessee for children with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, sickle cell, and cardiac disease.
- Monitors cumulative health records of students including immunizations audits and advises principal and/or parent of deficient records.
- Provides classes for students and faculty on health issues as requested.
- Provides training for persons designated by the principal to assist in administration of medications at the school level, including those medications to be dispensed daily as ordered by a physician and emergency medications as warranted such as glucagon and epinephrine.
- Demonstrates competence in carrying out nursing tasks and duties.
- Other responsibilities or duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
