NOTICE OF VACANCY

TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

REPORTS TO: Director of Coordinated School

SUPERVISES: N/A

TERM: 10 Months (200-day calendar), Non-Exempt

JOB GOAL: To enhance the educational process by improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of students by implementing the established standards of school nursing practices.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

• Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License
• Valid Driver's License
• Current First Aid and CPR Certification
• FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
• Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides wellness, health promotion and counseling services.
2. Provides Health Education to students, families, and staff.
3. Provides emergency care for students and staff.
4. Provides illness and injury prevention.
5. Evaluates children for chronic and acute illnesses and treats or refers as needed.
6. Provides education and training to teachers who have chronically ill children in their classroom with conditions that might warrant emergency treatment.
7. Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students with contagious infections and illnesses.
8. Performs health screens as indicated by the Coordinated School Health model, refers, and follows up on assessments as needed.
9. Develops the Individual Health Plan (IHP) as mandated by the state of Tennessee for children with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, sickle cell, and cardiac disease.
10. Monitors cumulative health records of students including immunizations audits and advises principal and/or parent of deficient records.
11. Provides classes for students and faculty on health issues as requested.
12. Provides training for persons designated by the principal to assist in administration of medications at the school level, including those medications to be dispensed daily as ordered by a physician and emergency medications as warranted such as glucagon and epinephrine.
13. Demonstrates competence in carrying out nursing tasks and duties.
14. Other responsibilities or duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
