REPORTS TO: 

Assistant Superintendent/Building Principals/Assistant Principals
 
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Regular, part-time
 
FLSA STATUS: 

Non-Exempt
 
POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist school administrators with the management of truant and students concerns.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Receive reports from each building daily regarding attendance information about students who are truant.
  • Attempt to locate truant students by visiting homes and/or local businesses that students are known to frequent.
  • Notify parents of the truancy and arrange for parents or a third party (approved by parents) to transport students to school.
  • Review records to determine if other children in the home are also truant.
  • Screen and refer families and student(s) for mediation.
  • Contact the juvenile probation department for students and family on probation.
  • Locate parents or guardians who are needed at school by an administrator, but are unreachable by telephone.  If unsuccessful, notify the appropriate agency or authority.
  • Keep documentation of all attempted and completed contacts.
  • Provide information for school-based and/or interagency meetings, court hearings, probation, and mediation sessions as needed.
  • Work with the Prosecutor or appropriate agency and appear in court as required.
  • Supply school directory information and emergency forms to the agencies (when permitted) when they are assisting with truant and unruly students.
  • Appear in court, when possible, to represent the school system.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
 
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
  • Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
  • Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with experience in education, law enforcement or social work.
  • Driver’s license.
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Well developed oral communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, particularly in the area of human relationships.
  • Ability to remain outwardly calm and impartial when under stress or in the presence of angry people.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with various adults, including school staff members and law enforcement personnel.
  • Willingness to participate in behavior management and self-defense training if recommended.

  • Cellular telephone.
  • Office machines.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Frequent exposure to angry, unruly people; occasional exposure to violent behavior.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather.
  • Occasional late afternoon or evening meetings with parents who were unavailable during the school day.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Length of Employment:  One Year Limited Contract
  • Salary:  Based on current classified salary schedule with appropriate experience and training
  • Fringe Benefits:  Based on current classified handbook
