Job Title: Teacher, Music 

Division:  Curriculum and Instruction

CPI Code:   100, 113, 114     

Salary Schedule:  Teacher Salary Scale

Eff Date:  1/29/25

FLSA:  Exempt

Reports to:  Principal

Supervises:  Students

Work Days:  190 Days

Qualifications:  

  1. Holds a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  2. Holds a valid Georgia Teaching Certificate

  3. Meets all certification requirements including teaching area endorsements in the State of Georgia

Performance Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Instructs all students on instrumental or vocal performance and ensures each student's progress with as much individualization as possible.

  • Directs and instructs the music program.

  • Presents concerts and programs as dictated by the instructional needs of the students and the valid expectations of the local school. 

  • Establishes a positive classroom climate and effectively manages music instruction within that environment.

  • Plans effectively for instruction, using knowledge of subject matter as well as knowledge of the physical, emotional, and intellectual growth process of students.

  • Select music and music materials which are appropriate for teaching and performance, and which will contribute to the development of the students' understanding and appreciation of music.

  • Evaluates student progress in terms of the objectives of the course and grade taught.

  • Maintains positive and supportive communication with other music teachers within the local school cluster as well as other music teachers within the district

  • Seeks to improve through professional development and evaluation activities

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.

 

Other Functions: 

Daily attendance and punctuality are required to ensure the goals of the work unit are met.

 

Working Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: 

Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 65% walking/standing, 25% sitting and 10% lifting/carrying.
