Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Learning Support
Posting Description: Special Education Coordinator
Terms of Employment: 10 Month Position
Salary: Commensurate with degree level and experience on teacher salary scale
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required:
- K-12 Special Education Teacher Certificate
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and local district policies and procedures
- Experience in implementing special education instruction or services
- Preferred:
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field
- At least 3 years teaching in a special education classroom preferred
- Previous experience as a Coordinator or Educational Diagnostician
- Manage the IEP process, including coordinating and overseeing the development of IEPs, communicating with IEP team members and parents, scheduling and facilitating IEP meetings, and meeting compliance timelines and requirements
- Maintain organized, compliant paperwork and student files for record keeping and auditing purposes
- Review all files and paperwork around IEP's prior to implementation to ensure compliance and completeness
- Scan and upload all compliance documents to PS IEP for each annual review, revision, re-evaluation, and eligibility determination
- Conduct meetings in a professional, collaborative, and compliant manner
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with parents and caregivers
- Act as liaison between outside agencies such as statewide services and other contracted providers for students with IEPs
- Serve on building level leadership team
- Ensure confidentiality of all student records
- Assist in unit count verification and other needs as they arise
- Coordinate assistive technology and/or AIM needs for students with IEPs
- Input testing accommodations for students with IEPs and collaborate with building test coordinators regarding implementation of accommodative supports
- Facilitate robust, ongoing communication with parents, teachers, related service providers, and other stakeholders in the IEP process
- Participate in the MTSS problem solving team process and pre-referral process
- Consult with teachers, administrators, and IEP teams regarding instructional and behavioral strategies for effective implementation of student IEPs.
- Attend district level Coordinator meetings and special education core team trainings and meetings.
- Facilitate professional learning opportunities for special education and/or general education teachers about district priorities or initiatives related to special education and/or IEP development and implementation
- Other duties as assigned
