Position Summary

The Elementary Art Teacher is responsible for developing students’ interest, ability, and creativity in visual arts by implementing a standards-based curriculum. The teacher fosters a positive learning environment that encourages artistic expression, critical thinking, and appreciation of the arts in grades 2–5.

Key Responsibilities

·        Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with district, state, and national visual arts standards.
·        Instruct students in techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and digital art.
·        Foster creativity, self-expression, and confidence through hands-on projects.
·        Incorporate art history, cultural perspectives, and interdisciplinary connections into lessons.
·        Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of grades, behavior, and attendance.
·        Organize and display student artwork throughout the school and at exhibitions or community events.
·        Maintain a safe, organized, and respectful classroom environment.
·        Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and parents to support student development.
·        Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
·        Maintain inventory of art supplies and request materials within the school’s budget.

Qualifications

·        Required:
·        Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field
·        Valid teaching license or certification for elementary visual arts in the state
·        Strong classroom management and communication skills
·        Preferred:
·        Master’s degree in Art Education or Fine Arts
·        Experience teaching in an elementary school setting
·        Familiarity with digital art tools and platforms

Work Environment

Standard school hours (with occasional evening events or exhibitions)
Classroom, studio, and school-wide settings
May involve lifting supplies, standing for long periods, or working with various materials
