IN AND OUT OF DISTRICT
POSITION
Livonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified physical education teacher who will motivate each student in cultivating physical fitness and developing positive physical, social, and emotional health. The teacher will identify and implement best practices in instruction and student achievement. The teacher will develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in each student through individual and team activities and sports.
DISTRICT OVERVIEW:
Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,800 staff members, serving approximately 13,200 students pre-K – post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center and 1 vocational and transition center in the School District. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $176 million, with a state funding of $9,600 per pupil.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following is a list of minimum qualifications for this position, any one of which may be waived by the Administration in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsements in MX or MB
- A major in the subject area is strongly preferred, with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
- A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students
- Demonstrated positive interpersonal relationships
- Skills in individualizing instruction
- Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders, including colleagues, parents, and booster clubs
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture
- Exhibits a commitment to the District’s Shared Vision and Collective Commitments
- Teaches skills through activities and sports based on students’ abilities
- Plans a balanced physical education program through collaboration with other physical education teachers in the District
- Provides individual and small-group instruction and adapts the curriculum based on the individual needs of each student
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement
- Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class
- Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution to team sports
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of the students
- Communicates with parents and counselors on student progress
- Cooperates with school administration in providing physical fitness programs for school and community
- Supervises students in in-and-out-of-classroom activities as assigned
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
- Maintains professional growth through attendance at professional development activities
- Executes other duties assumes other responsibilities as assigned by building administrator

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association. The minimum deadline for applications is 4:00pm on Friday, May 30, 2025. This position will remain open until filled.
