About Gateway Charter School
Gateway Charter School is seeking a dedicated and inspiring K-8 Music Teacher to join our team of educators. Our mission is to cultivate a love for music and the arts while providing students with a strong academic foundation.
We embrace The Lab School of Washington® methodology, incorporating multi-sensory instruction and arts-based learning to create dynamic classroom experiences. Our music program encourages creativity, collaboration, and self-expression while fostering musical skills that enhance cognitive development.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement engaging music curriculum for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Teach general music, vocal instruction, and basic instrumental techniques.
Integrate music theory, composition, and performance into lessons.
Foster an environment that encourages creativity, expression, and collaboration.
Introduce students to a variety of musical styles, cultural influences, and historical contexts.
Utilize technology to enhance music education and interactive learning.
Support students’ individual musical growth through differentiated instruction.
Maintain accurate student records and communicate progress with families.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to co-plan and co-teach integrated units of study that utilize music as a vehicle for deeper understanding of non-musical content.
Lead and grow school musical ensembles, including the existing or emerging chorus and steel band. This includes directing rehearsals, selecting repertoire, and preparing students for performances.
Identify and nurture student talent, providing opportunities for individual and group musical growth.
Organize and direct student performances, concerts, and showcases that celebrate student achievement in music and integrated arts projects.
Maintain a well-organized and inspiring music classroom environment conducive to learning and exploration.
Select, acquire, and maintain musical instruments, equipment, and resources, including those necessary for chorus and steel band.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and upcoming events.
Stay current with best practices in music education, arts integration, and ensemble direction, including innovative approaches to leading diverse musical groups like steel bands
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
Valid or eligible Delaware teaching certification (preferably with a Music endorsement).
Proficiency in vocal instruction, basic instrumental training, and music theory.
Strong knowledge of child development and creative teaching methodologies.
Passion for arts integration and interdisciplinary approaches to learning.
Excellent communication skills to engage students, families, and colleagues.
Experience with performance-based learning and school-wide productions is a plus.
