Position Summary:
This position will meet the educational needs of students on the Autism Spectrum. Provide a high degree of structure and management in order to provide appropriate supports to aid students in accomplishing individual goals. Familiarity with creating a structured environment and daily routine for students, ability to develop accommodations to support individual students and provide instruction to assist students with skill mastery and to access grade level curriculum.  Experience with assistive technology and supporting students with communication and social skill needs.  Collaborate with grade level teachers to to establish links between disciplines.  Support student integration into mainstream as much as possible and according to the student's IEP. Support students with acquisition of communication skills, social skills, self-regulation and school appropriate behaviors.  Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create a positive learning environment and effective management structures to promote and foster effective teaching, learning, and student achievement.
  • Establish instructional routines and provide authentic learning experiences to engage students.
  • Supervise and collaborate with paraeducators, including developing schedules and outlining activities to be implemented.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure a shared understanding of student strengths and needs through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery.
  • Promote a respectful and fair learning environment that supports student dignity.
  • Evaluate student abilities and develop student profiles using a variety of assessment tools, including functional, behavioral, standardized assessments, observations, checklists, histories, and interviews.
  • Incorporate additional learning opportunities when appropriate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to:
    • Review evaluation results
    • Integrate findings across disciplines
    • Offer recommendations
    • Develop IEPs and intervention plans aligned with student goals
  • Ensure classroom processes, procedures, and data collection are well-organized and effectively support instructional time.
  • Motivate, engage, and empower learners to track and monitor their own progress.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments using contemporary tools and resources.
  • Maximize content learning in context and develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes aligned with 21st-century learning.
  • Collaborate with educators across grades and subject areas to connect disciplines and influence school-wide curriculum and teaching practices.
  • Demonstrate content mastery and make curriculum relevant to all students, including incorporating life skills where appropriate.
  • Integrate and align:

    • Instructional objectives and strategies
    • Learning activities, materials, and resources
    • Assessments differentiated for individual student needs
  • Use data management tools to analyze outcomes and identify student strengths and areas for growth.
  • Provide high-quality, accurate, constructive, specific, and timely feedback to support student performance.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff regarding student progress and opportunities.
  • Use technology and other communication platforms (e.g., websites, podcasts) to engage stakeholders.
  • Build rapport with students, staff, and parents to proactively address and prevent issues.
  • Engage in continuing education and professional development to stay aligned with best practices and maintain Colorado licensure.
  • Apply professional literature, evidence-based research, and ongoing education to guide decision-making.
  • Adhere to the professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice in ethical decision-making.
  • Notify the Principal and Director of Student Services of any failures to implement assigned students’ IEPs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

 
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position may include the supervision of support personnel. Supervisory responsibilities should be carried out in accordance with the District's policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, participating in interviews, providing training and professional development, assigning and directing work, offering performance feedback, addressing complaints, and resolving issues as they arise.
 
BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of equipment and assessments.
  • Project needs for budget planning.
  • Maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
  • Review services for improvements and make changes as needed to ensure quality of services.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree.
Master’s degree (preferred).
English fluency will be determined through the interview process and licensure.
Previous experience with autism students (preferred).
 
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
Valid Colorado Teaching License with a Special Education Generalist endorsement.
Valid Colorado Teaching License with Elementary Education endorsement through passing CO PLACE or CO PRAXIS, or CDE approved out of state content exam.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds.
Lifting of up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds with support.
Frequent sitting, bending, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and reaching.
Ability to run, jog, swim and/or expel physical exertion in order to appropriately respond to needs of students.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Mostly clean and comfortable.
The work environment is high energy and may often appear chaotic.
Possible diapering, and feeding via feeding tube.
Physical restraint may be necessary to provide safety for student and others.
May encounter noise, odors or bodily fluids.

SALARY:
Salary placement from $52,674 - $101,505 based upon education, experience and Master Agreement. Current Salary Schedule posted at Salary Schedules - Englewood Schools.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New hires or rehires will be responsible for the fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Per the negotiated agreement, all teachers that start after student first day are temporary.
