Description
The Raymore-Peculiar Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking a Raymore-Peculiar High School Student to fill the position of Dock Worker Apprentice.
Job Responsibilities
- Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding or strapping to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
- Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that the inventory is protected.
- Sort cargo for processing or transport.
- Mark materials or objects for identification.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
- Move freight, stock or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, or containers by hand or using trucks or other equipment.
- Carry needed tools or supplies from storage or trucks and return them after use.
- Record numbers of units handled or moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
- Operate moving and lifting equipment, including attaching devices to lift and guide loads and adjusting controls to guide, position or move equipment..
- Pack containers and repack damaged containers.
Important Information
- Students entering their Junior year at Ray-Pec High School are eligible to apply.
- The position is multiyear - Summer 2025 - 2025-2026 School Year - Summer 2026 - 2026-2027 School Year - Summer 2027
- Work hours are as follows:
- Summer - 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
- Summer 2025 Dates - June 2, 2025 - August 15, 2025
- School Year - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
- Summer - 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
- An individual who completes the apprenticeship program requirements will be eligible for a U.S. Department of Labor Youth Apprenticeship Certificate. To achieve this credential, the student must:
- Complete 2000 work hours
- Take 144 hours (two semesters) of high school course work such as Materials & Processes I, Materials & Processes II, Home Maintenance & Repair I, Home Maintenance & Repair II, CAD I, Intro to Engineering, Principles of Engineering and/or Computer Integrated Manufacturing.
- Salary:
- First 500 hours - $15.00/hour
- Remaining apprenticeship hours - $15.61/hour
