Position / Title: Teacher Beacon Academy (Broadcast and Communications)

Function / Position Summary
 
Teachers will facilitate teaching and learning opportunities that meet the instructional needs of a student pursuing a higher degree or career in the field of Broadcasting and Communication. Instruction will align to the following standards: Common Core State Standards and College and Career Standards.
 
Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines and, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  • Displays a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  • Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of curriculum goals, and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
  • Implements school improvement plans and strategies.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
  • Implements assessments of student progress and communicates progress to students and parents.
  • Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
  • Assists in the referral and diagnosis of students with learning difficulties, seeking assistance from other school personnel as required.
  • Works cooperatively with building principal and/or director in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
  • Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in related subject from accredited university. (Media Studies, Broadcast Journalism, and/or TV/Radio Production)
  • Illinois Professional Educator License required 
Experience / Knowledge 
  • Teaching experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
  • Work or related experience preferred but not necessary for hiring.
  • A working knowledge of a non-linear editing program such as, Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premier, and associated programs such as Motion and Sound Track Pro.
  • A working knowledge of a video file management system on a lab server.
  • Familiar with TV studio environment include, SD and HD cameras, video switcher, sound board, audio mixer, and studio lighting.
  • Familiar with remote shoots both on and off campus.  Working knowledge of streaming audio and video to the web is required.
Physical Demands 
  • Must work indoors and outdoors.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Includes stooping, bending, and reaching, prolonged sitting and standing.
  • May be required to leave main work site to attend meetings.
Terms of Employment 
  • Nine-month position (184 work days)
  • Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education
