JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Student Services, under the direction of the Director of Student Services, is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day function of the District’s Special Education programs. The Assistant Director of Student Services ensures compliance with education law, practices, and procedures through guidance and assistance to staff, parents, and others as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To excel in this role, the individual must meet the following key responsibilities:
Provide administrative oversight of District special education programs and 504.
Serve as the District Representative and LEA for all special education meetings, empowered to make decisions and commit district resources at special education staffings.
Consult with the Director, administrators, and building principals regarding special education student needs.
Assist the Director in coordinating and overseeing special education staffing and programming.
Assist the Director in analyzing, developing, and modifying special education programs to meet the needs of the students.
Provide consultation, coaching, and technical assistance to school staff, parents, and others regarding special education due process laws, rules, policies and practices. Ensure compliance of special education due process laws, policies, practices, and procedures.
Serve as liaison to students transitioning to high school placements.
Collaborate with out of district placements for tours, meetings, and visitation as warranted.
Provide guidance and direction to staff to ensure the district is utilizing LRE and inclusion to service students with special needs.
Consult with intervention teams to ensure academic and behavior interventions are being implemented accordingly; ensure legal compliance in data collection for referrals to case study evaluations.
Collaborate with the Special Education Director to analyze special education student achievement and recommend strategies for increasing yearly progress.
Collaborate with early childhood team to conduct routine developmental screenings and transition of children from early intervention.
Practice professional renewal through a variety of means such as attending conferences, workshops, and seminars and participating in professional organizations.
Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: The role requires frequent walking and standing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is generally stable, with minimal exposure to unusual temperatures, noise, or hazards. The position requires extended and non-traditional hours to fulfill job duties, as well as participation in organization-sponsored events and meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree in Educational Leadership.
A Professional Educator's License with Administrative Endorsement.
Experience in special education and student services.
Experience in classroom management, discipline, instruction, and student supervision.
Strong communication, presentation, and listening skills.
LICENSES/CREDENTIAL: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month position. Begins July 1.
