Description

Position Summary:

The K-12 Instructional Coach – Mathematics & Science plays a critical role in enhancing instructional practices across the district. This position focuses on improving math teaching and learning, while also supporting science instruction to ensure alignment with curriculum standards and evidence-based best practices. The coach collaborates with teachers, administrators, and instructional teams to foster continuous professional growth, student achievement, and the effective implementation of instructional strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Coaching & Teacher Support

  • Provide individualized and group coaching to K-12 teachers with an emphasis on math instruction.

  • Support science teachers by modeling lessons, co-planning, co-teaching, and offering feedback on instruction.

  • Facilitate the use of data to drive instruction and intervention strategies in math and science.

  • Promote culturally responsive and inclusive practices in STEM instruction.

  • Support teachers in integrating instructional technology to enhance math and science learning.

Professional Development & Collaboration

  • Design and deliver professional development aligned to district goals, math standards (e.g., Common Core, state-specific), and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

  • Lead professional learning communities (PLCs) and collaborative planning meetings.

  • Stay current with educational research, trends, and innovations in math and science pedagogy.

  • Work with curriculum teams to align instructional materials and assessments with state standards.

Curriculum & Assessment Support

  • Assist in the development and refinement of math and science curricula, resources, and pacing guides.

  • Support the implementation of formative and summative assessments and the interpretation of student data.

  • Recommend and support instructional resources and materials for math and science classrooms.

Leadership & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between classroom teachers and district leadership on instructional initiatives.

  • Contribute to the development of school improvement plans as they relate to math and science instruction.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional relationships with staff and stakeholders.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid teaching license with a concentration in mathematics (elementary or secondary).

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics.

  • Deep understanding of math content and pedagogy across K-12.

  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring, coaching, or leading professional learning.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching or supporting science instruction.

  • Master’s degree in education, mathematics, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with adult learning theory and instructional coaching models (e.g., Jim Knight, Cognitive Coaching).

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.


Working Conditions:

  • School-based and district-level work across multiple sites.

  • Occasional evening or weekend professional development sessions may be required.

  • Frequent travel within the district.


Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated annually by the supervisor in accordance with district policy and instructional coaching effectiveness standards.
