DESCRIPTION:  To assist the students in Woodland classrooms by having their individual, academic and social needs met, to bolster effective school performance

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  1. Certification:   
    1. Required - Valid Illinois Professional Educator's, Paraprofessional, or Subtitute License valid for grades EC through 8th grade registered in Lake County
    2. Preferred - Valid Illinois Professional Educator's License valid for grades EC through 8th grade registered in Lake County
  2. Education:
    1. Required - High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 30 credit hours of college credit verified by college transcript(s)
  3. Experience:
    1. Preferred - Classroom experience, Spanish-speaking

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  1. Paraprofessionals follow the guidance of assigned classroom teacher
  2. Assists the teacher in differentiating instruction based upon needs, interests, and abilities
  3. Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students
  4. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  5. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
  6. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher
  7. Distributes and collects assignments, and other materials for instruction
  8. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
  9. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips
  10. Assists with such large group activities for direct instruction
  11. Assists students in other areas of the schools as necessary for their needs
  12. Minimally assists the teacher with daily classroom routines, eg. attendance, collection of money, etc.
  13. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
  14. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
  15. When necessary, a licensed paraprofessional may be asked to be the guest teacher in a classroom in the school when all other options have been unsuccessful to obtain other guest teachers
  16. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers
  17. Participates in inservice training programs when aligned to the roles of the paraprofessional, per school principal
  18. Assists with supervision of students as appropriate and necessary throughout the school day
  19. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the teacher or principal, supervisor, director or other administrator
  20. May be asked to serve as a parprofessional in more than one classroom

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical:       Competent in digital environments; iPads, Chromebooks databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications etc.
 
Interpersonal:  Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff and parents.  Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills.  Empathetic, humanistic and open-minded. Strong sense of teamwork.   Strategic thinker.  Must be able to work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration, etc.  Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.  Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people.  Must have strong organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
 
Manual Dexterity:        Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.
 
Physical Effort:            Work requires handling average weight materials or equipment, but not for sustained periods.
 
Working Conditions:    Some exposure to definitely disagreeable elements may exist.  

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Work Week:     Monday through Friday 
 
Work Year:       176 days
 
Work Hours:    7:15 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. 
 
Salary:  Minimum of $18.41 per hour
