Description
High School Shooting Sports Coach/Advisor
Reports To: High School AdministrationSeason: Full Year, beginning 2025/26 school year
Salary: Supplemental Stipend $6,965 (25/26 salary TBD)
Screening for minimum qualifications and district screening will be conducted on a rolling basis beginning May 15, 2025, and may be extended to ensure a robust and competitive applicant pool.
ASSIGNMENT SUMMARY:
Responsible for all aspects of directing and coaching the Shooting Sports program including but not limited to program development, recruitment, coaching, and fundraising. Responsible for risk management and all safety protocols of participants. Supervise and implement safe instruction of air rifle and/or shotgun sports. Maintain the safety of students and staff to ensure the program is run safely and efficiently through detailed supervision and quality instruction.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older with a current Washington State Driver’s License
- Candidates must hold appropriate certifications and/or licenses. NRA certifications strongly preferred
- Experience working with students and families of varied cultural backgrounds
- Ability to relate well with students, parents, and peers
- Willingness and ability to work in a team environment
- Enthusiasm, creativity, and resourcefulness in motivating students
- Growth and goal-oriented mindset (long and short term)
- Clearance for state and national background checks as a result of fingerprinting; successfully pass criminal records check
- Clearance for driving district vehicles, which requires a clean driving record
- Participation and/or working knowledge of shooting sports experience at the secondary level preferred
- Strong communication skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coach is responsible for all operations of a school’s team including, but not limited to:
- Supervising student athletes in a professional manner.
- Training student athletes in safety and courtesy.
- Training student athletes in clay target shooting sport skills.
- Monitoring the safe handling of shotguns and ammunition.
- Having a wide experience in shotgun shooting and a thorough knowledge of shotguns and shooting range equipment.
- Supervising, advising and assisting all coaches and volunteers.
- Educating student athletes about shooting range safety and courtesy rules.
- Managing student, coach, league, or school conflicts.
- Enforcing all Policies & Procedures.
- Coordinating schedules.
- Submitting all required forms and payments before deadlines.
- Verifying all scores and submitting them to the league before the deadline.
- Acting as Range Safety Officer including, but not limited to, ensuring all shotguns and ammunition are handled safely at all times; supervising preparation of the shooting range according to technical, safety, and target requirements; ensuring the correct application of guns, ammunition and equipment is being used; and ensuring proper hearing and eye protection is worn by athletes.
- Conducting and/or verifying student athlete firearm safety education certification.
- Transporting students to and from competitions throughout the season.
- Perform such other duties as may be required of the position or assigned by the administration to fulfill the mission and role of the school in the community.
