Position Summary
 
The Director of Research, Assessment, and Data is responsible for leading the district’s research initiatives and overseeing the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of data to support strategic planning, school improvement efforts, assessment practices, enrollment management, and compliance with state and federal requirements. This position fosters a data-informed culture across all schools and departments, ensuring that decisions at every level are based on accurate, meaningful, and actionable information. The Director will supervise a team of data coordinators and specialists, ensuring that systems of data collection and reporting are efficient, compliant, and supportive of the district’s mission to improve student outcomes.
 
Minimum Required Qualifications
 

  • Education/Training:
  • Master's Degree in Educational Research, Educational Leadership, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
  • Licensure:
    • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a general administrative endorsement (preferred)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in education-related research, data analysis, or assessment, preferably in K-12 education.
    • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Dispositions:
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis, data visualization, and research methodology.
  • Proficient in student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool, Skyward) and assessment systems.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance regulations.
  • Skilled with data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, PowerBI, SPSS, or R.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster a culture of data-informed decision-making.
 
Desired Qualifications
Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Leadership and Strategy
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive district-wide data, assessment and research strategy aligned with strategic goals and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external research projects, ensuring alignment with district priorities and ethical standards.
  • Provide leadership for continuous improvement efforts through analysis of academic, operational, and organizational data.
  • Oversee the development and enforcement of data governance policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff to ensure high-quality data operations and research activities.
Data Management and Analysis
  • Oversee the collection, warehousing, protection, and reporting of student, staff, and operational data.
  • Manage the administration and integrity of key data systems, including student information systems, assessment platforms, and data warehouses.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state (ISBE), and federal reporting requirements, including SIS, IWAS, CRDC, and ESSA.
  • Analyze achievement data and produce reports to inform district leadership and school teams.
  • Guide schools in interpreting and using data to improve instruction and outcomes.
Enrollment and Assessment Oversight
  • Supervise enrollment data processes to ensure accuracy in student records, enrollment projections, and residency verification.
  • Oversee district-wide assessment administration logistics and compliance for tests such as ACT, PACT, ACCESS, STAR, and DLM.
  • Work with leadership and counselors to ensure valid and reliable assessment data is used for placement and programming decisions.
Reporting and Communication
  • Develop and distribute dashboards, executive summaries, and detailed reports for leadership, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate data trends, research findings, and actionable insights to internal and external audiences.
  • Advise district leaders on emerging data and research trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
Compliance and Accountability
  • Ensure data privacy compliance under FERPA and other laws.
  • Coordinate external research requests and manage institutional review board (IRB) processes when necessary.
  • Maintain longitudinal data systems to track student outcomes and program impact.
 
Perform other duties as assigned.


Work Environment & Expectations
  • Primary work in an office setting with occasional school site visits.
  • Some evenings or weekends required for meetings or special events.

Performance Evaluation/Accountability
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board’s policy on personnel evaluations. All evaluations will comply with applicable state and federal laws.

Occasional lifting and other physical tasks may be required.

  • Extended or irregular hours may be necessary.
  • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, and lift moderate weights (up to 50 lbs).
  • Knowledge of multimedia equipment and current technology is beneficial.
  • Ability to inspect roofs and/or work sites, requiring the use of ladders and working in various environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, noise, air quality).
 
Position Goals
In consultation with the supervisor, the employee will set annual goals, which will be included in the performance evaluation document. In the event of a disagreement regarding the goals, the Superintendent will make the final determination.
 
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $133,459 – $180,559 (regionally competitive, based on experience and qualifications)
  • Benefits: As per the position contract.

Selection Process

The hiring supervisor will recommend a qualified candidate to the Office of Human Resources. Employment is contingent upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approval by the Board of Education, and completion of required processes as outlined in Board Policy 5:30.
